Chinese Lettuce Wraps
1 head Iceberg lettuce lettuce leaves
Sauce
1 Tablespoon soy sauce
4 tablespoons oyster sauce
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1 slice ginger, minced (optional)
1 garlic clove, minced
2 green onions, chopped
1/2 cup dry roasted peanuts, roughly cut
1 lb Hen House Ground Round
Wash the lettuce, dry, and separate the leaves. Set aside.
Mix together the sauce ingredients. Heat the sesame oil in a non-stick frying pan on high heat. Add the garlic and green onions and fry until the garlic is aromatic. Add ground round and saute. Add sauce. Cook for 2 - 3 more minutes, stirring in peanuts. Heat through and finish cooking. Make sure mixture is finely minced.
Lay out a lettuce leaf and spoon a heaping teaspoon of the mixture into the middle. The lettuce wraps are designed to be eaten "taco-style," with the lettuce/meat mixture folded into a package.
Jasper's Notes:The latest trend at Asian restaurants, lettuce wraps make a great appetizer I like to serve the filling on a platter with whole iceberg lettuce leaves on the side and let your friends and family wrap their own. They'll love the combination of crisp, cold lettuce with the warm, flavorful filling. I also like to add some spice to this dish with some Chinese hot sauce. Lettuce wraps make a great party treat!
